Huisman Opens Doors to Young Technicians, Trusts the Emerging Generation
Sviadnov, December 17, 2024 – Will there be enough skilled and motivated people in technical fields in the Czech Republic in the years to come? Huisman Czech Republic is actively working to make sure there will be. The aim of various activities is not only to spark young people’s interest in technical education but also to better prepare them for practical work and their future professional careers. Cooperation with secondary schools and universities includes a wide range of activities, from donations to schools and excursions to participation in educational events and fairs, as well as the organization of internships and placements.
The cornerstone of the collaboration between Huisman Czech Republic and participating schools is internships and placements, which allow young people to gain hands-on experience in real operations. For new graduates, the Sviadnov facility has prepared an individualized adaptation plan, focusing on a detailed introduction to the workplace, colleagues, and work activities. “We believe that investing in the education of young talents is key to the future prosperity of both the company and the entire industrial sector. We aim not only to recruit qualified employees but also to inspire young people to take a greater interest in technical fields and contribute to the development of the regional education system,” says Karel Pavlíček, Managing Director of Huisman Czech Republic.
Internships and Placements – Real Projects
For example, students from the Secondary School of Information Technology in Frýdek-Místek completed an internship in Huisman Czech Republic’s IT department, while students from the Secondary Industrial School, Business Academy, and Language School in Frýdek-Místek gained practical experience in the control systems and manufacturing departments. “Our goal is to involve students as much as possible in the actual development and production of our advanced technical equipment. Young technicians have worked on specific projects in a real work environment, gaining invaluable experience for their future careers. Some of the interns have gone on to start their professional careers with us in Sviadnov after finishing school,” describes Monika Pěnčíková, HR Manager of Huisman Czech Republic. She adds: “Our experience with young students is generally very positive—they have the necessary knowledge, are highly independent, proactive, and work well in teams. We still have talented and motivated technical minds in the Czech Republic!”
Excursions and a Look into Production
Huisman Czech Republic also regularly organizes excursions for secondary school and university students. This year, students from the Secondary Industrial School, Business Academy, and Language School in Frýdek-Místek, the Secondary Vocational School in Frýdek-Místek, and the Technical University of Košice visited the Sviadnov plant. “They got to know our production processes, company projects, and innovations that Huisman applies in the energy, maritime, and mining industries. The drilling rig simulator, which some participants were able to try out, was particularly well received,” says Monika Pěnčíková.
Support for Competitions and Technical Education
The Sviadnov facility of Huisman Czech Republic is also actively involved in educational events and competitions. For instance, it provides financial support for the international welding competition Golden Cup Linde, where its representatives also serve as jury members. Another initiative was the donation of six pallets of components to the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at the VSB – Technical University of Ostrava. The components will be used in courses such as Electrical Devices and Safety in Electrical Engineering and will help equip the newly established Electrical Light laboratories. “Next year, we plan to continue our proven activities, join the Mind Your Future project, welcome selected students for a one-day internship in June, and expand our cooperation with VSB-TU Ostrava,” reveals Monika Pěnčíková.
