Huisman Czech Republic recently unveiled its largest crane to date, marking a significant milestone for the company. The height of the crane is 225 metres.
Sviadnov, April 10, 2024 – Huisman Czech Republic has accomplished a significant project by designing and manufacturing its largest fully assembled crane to date. The equipment was specifically designed for BMS Heavy Cranes, a global supplier in cranes and heavy lifting. The crane will be used to install the largewind turbine generators, onshore, offshore and on floating foundations.
“We completed the entire project within the specified timeframe and delivered outstanding quality. All aspects of the crane, from design to manufacturing, were completed in Sviadnov, with only a few crane components sourced elsewhere. Afterwards, the crane was transported, assembled, and put into operation in Denmark,” said Karel Pavlíček, the General Manager of Huisman Czech Republic, expressing his enthusiasm for this important milestone for the company.
“A significant amount of the work was accomplished through the use of automation. We utilised welding robots at Huisman Czech Republic’s plant to effectively weld parts exceeding 15 metres,” explained Tomáš Zamarski, the Project Manager. He added, “A remarkable 60% of the welding tasks were performed by robots, a ratio that far surpasses what is typically seen in traditional manufacturing.”
The crane is made up of more than 150 substantial weldments and various smaller components. Numerous components had to be assembled during the manufacturing process. “We have successfully implemented and thoroughly tested the comprehensive control system of the crane at the Sviadnov facility. The testing took place on a specialised track that accurately replicated the crane’s real movements,” said Karel Pavlíček.
The crane’s large size necessitated the transportation of a specific component from the Czech Republic to Denmark, where the complete crane was then assembled. For transportation purposes, a total of 150 trucks were utilised, with 92 of them specifically designed to accommodate oversized goods. The transported object had a maximum length of 20 metres and a width of 4.5 metres.
Experts from Huisman Czech Republic were present at the site and actively participated in the installation and commissioning process. The initial load test on 1 November, 2023, was executed successfully.
