Huisman Czech Republic Participates in the Production of Specialized Rotating Cranes for Offshore Wind Turbine Installation Vessels
Sviadnov, January 31, 2025 – Huisman is manufacturing two 3000mt+ Leg Encircling Cranes (LECs) for Havfram, a company providing transportation and installation services for the offshore wind energy sector. The Huisman Czech Republic production facility in Sviadnov contributes to the project by producing intelligent switchboards and auxiliary winches. The final assembly and installation of both cranes on the installation vessels are taking place in Schiedam, the Netherlands.
The two fully electric 3000mt+ rotating cranes will be equipped with unique 155-meter-long booms, reaching a lifting height of approximately 180 meters above the deck. The crane’s design has been fine-tuned to meet the specific requirements for offshore wind turbine installation. Huisman has designed the crane structure in multiple sections to facilitate easy inspection and maintenance.
In Sviadnov, the team contributed by manufacturing two central control units (E-rooms) for the rotating cranes, as well as two auxiliary winches. “Our intelligent switchboards contain all key systems and serve as the control center for the crane. We have designed them to withstand extreme conditions and to support remote access and diagnostics, for example, during maintenance,” says Karel Pavlíček, Managing Director of Huisman Czech Republic, about the involvement of the Czech production plant.
Huisman’s Leg Encircling Crane is a lightweight and reliable crane featuring high positioning accuracy and exceptional energy efficiency. It has a compact tail swing, minimizing the space required on the vessel’s deck.
The LEC, developed by Huisman, is specifically designed for use on jack-up installation vessels, which are employed in offshore wind turbine installation. These vessels are equipped with retractable legs that can be extended to anchor onto the seabed. This system enables the vessel to elevate and stabilize itself before commencing the wind turbine installation process.
